LYRICS - "AND OTHER STORIES"

BIRDS

Toward the Forward Building clock, I gaze upon the flock, they follow me
Feathers soar to greet me on the city block
No words of fire can shock me anymore

Now the days are getting dark, the trees are turning stark
Cruel winter’s lean
And I’m alone here in the park
There’s no sound except the dogs bark, faint, unseen

High up on the gilded ledge, they wait right on the edge, so patiently
For their feed then fly down landing by the hedge and gratefully will dredge up every seed
Fools without a trace of heart approach to play their part but I let it sail
And I don’t even try to start, I’ve gotten way too smart, I let them rail

So much brighter than you know, I’m sighted walking slow yet anxiously
Through the city crowd, I’m spotted as I go, eyes peering down below so cautiously

Now the days are getting dark, the trees are turning stark
Cruel winter’s lean
And I’m alone here in the park
There’s no sound except the dogs bark, faint, unseen

And now the days are getting dark, the trees are turning stark
Cruel winter’s lean
And I’m content here in the park
There’s no sound except the dogs bark, faint, unseen

Babies lying half asleep, out through the door I creep
My bags are full, the snow’s drifting down, and it’s mounting soft and deep
And I hear a siren weep in this hardened town
